Alert: Video of anti-terror mock drill in Virar being circulated as ‘terrorist caught at D-Mart’
A video of a counter-terror mock drill conducted by Palghar District Police on Thursday is being circulated with misleading titles on social media.
Around 5 pm yesterday, Palghar district police along with Riot Control Police (RCP) and Quick Response Team (QRT) conducted a mock drill at D-Mart hypermarket, located at Pimpal Wadi in Virar (East).
During the 30-minute mock drill, three police officers and 25 staff members staged a scenario involving the arrest of a terror suspect. The drill was conducted to test the anti-terror response and preparedness of the officials.
Although officials announced that the arrest was a part of the mock drill, the realistic portrayal seemingly left many shoppers and bystanders confused.
Since many eye-witnesses had recorded videos of the incident, social media platforms were littered with numerous viral videos with grossly misleading titles like ‘terror suspect caught in Kalyan’ or ‘terrorist arrested at D-mart’, and others on Friday.
“The video in question is of the anti-terror mock drill we conducted yesterday,” an official from Palghar police clarified.
Given the seriousness of the subject matter, especially on the heels of the recent Pulwama terror attack, citizens are advised to refrain from sharing such videos as it may spark unnecessary panic and chaos.
