Amboli police arrest 7 for gangraping woman in Shamnagar slum, one accused on the run
Police have arrested seven men for gangraping a 28-year-old woman in Mumbai’s Amboli area on Monday night. The victim was looking for a house to rent in Shamnagar slum with her husband.
According to the police, the woman and her husband were looking for a house in Shamnagar slum area with the help of a local lady. After looking at some houses, they stayed at the lady’s house on Monday night.
After sometime, eight persons barged into the house and gangraped the victim in front of her husband before fleeing.
Following the incident, the woman and her husband reached Amboli Police Station to lodge a complaint.
Police subsequently launched an investigation into the matter and arrested seven accused. One accused, however, is still absconding.
“Eight people from the area allegedly raped the woman. Seven accused have been arrested. One of the accused who has been arrested has a criminal history,” said Mumbai police spokesperson Ashok Dudhe.
All eight accused, aged between 20-25 years, live in the same area. Police have booked them under Section 376 D (gangrape) of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim was discharged after being treated in a hospital. Her condition is stable.
