A 22-year-old biker lost his life, and two others were injured, while performing stunts near Bandra Reclamation on Sunday night.

The incident took place around 9:40 pm on Sunday, when the three bikers were performing stunts near the northbound stretch of the Bandra Reclamation, just before the start of the Bandra-Worli sealink.

The bikers were identified as Abhijeet Gurav (22), Zafar Shaikh (19) and Akash Rajput (20).

According to eyewitnesses, one of the bikers lost control of his speeding bike, causing it to ram into the other two. In a manner of seconds, all three bikes, along with their riders, fell on the road.

All three were rushed to Bhabha hospital following the incident by bystanders. Abhijeet was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, while Zafar and Akash are still undergoing treatment.

The KTM 390 bike, being ridden by Abhijeet, went up in flames after the crash. It was completely gutted by the time authorities reached the spot.

Bandra police have confiscated the other bikes, and launched an investigation into the case. However, no FIR has been registered till now.

According to one report, the trio would frequently perform stunts at Bandra Reclamation, Nariman Point and Bandra Kurla Complex every Saturday and Sunday night, and get into an altercation with anyone who tried to stop them from doing so.

Bandra residents, meanwhile, feel that authorities need to take stern action to discourage youngsters from risking their lives and everyone elses.

“Bike racing at reclamation is nothing new. It happens every weekend. The cops also know about it and have taken action against some bikers in the past too. But this is a menace for residents and other motorists which needs to be curtailed. We need stricter laws and proper enforcement,” said Akaash Goyal, a Bandra (W) resident.
