Local Press Co 5-point Snippet
1. Air India call centre in Thane received an absurd call on Monday morning. The unidentified caller claimed his imposter posed a threat to Mumbai Airport.
2. On the call, the unknown caller introduced himself as Manish Kumar, a BSES Rajdhani Kota officer from Bihar.
3. He told the operator that a man who had been using his identity for 15 years posed danger to security at Mumbai Airport as he was carrying arms and ammunition. He added the imposter would be dressed in police uniform and then hung up.
4. The call centre immediately alerted the Shree Nagar police station. The police sprang into action and beefed up the security at the city airport. At the same time, police also began to trace the origin of the call and discovered that it was made from a toll-free number. The police are now on the lookout for the caller.
5. This has been the second instance wherein Thane’s Air India call centre received a call claiming a security threat. In November last year, a youth from Madhya Pradesh was arrested as he called and threatened to hijack an AI airplane “just for fun”.
