Coaches of CSMT-bound Panchvati Express separate from engine near Kalyan station
A major mishap was averted near the busy Kalyan station on Thursday morning when bogies of CSMT-bound Panchvati Express got separated from the engine after their coupling broke.
According to officials, the Panchvati Express was en route Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus from Manmad in Nashik when the coaches decoupled around 10 am near Patri Pool area between Kalyan and Thakurli stations on Central line.
No one was injured in the mishap, thanks in part to the motorman who applied the brakes as soon as the coaches got separated.
The engine and three coaches got uncoupled, leaving remaining 19 coaches behind on the track, Central Railway spokesperson AK Jain said.
The remaining coaches that were left on the track near Kalyan were subsequently moved near Thane station to avoid bunching of trains, he added.
Some rumours about a derailment and track fracture were doing rounds on social media following the incident. However, CR took to Twitter to clarify.
“It’s neither derailment nor track issue. It’s an issue with coupling which is being rectified shortly. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” it said.
As of publishing this report, technical staff from Kalyan has reached the spot and is currently working on repairing the coupling.
Meanwhile, passengers of the Panchvati Express have been given the option of taking local services to reach the destination.
