Colaba police on Saturday arrested nine men for assaulting and parading a youth in his innerwear in the area. The accused also recorded the incident on a cellphone.

The main accused, 32-year-old Manoj Raut, called the victim to his house on Wednesday night. When the victim, 26-year-old Avinash Adhav, reached his house around 8:30 pm, he saw that many of Raut’s friends were also present there.

According to an official with Colaba police, Raut wanted information about Adhav’s friend Yogesh Bhagat, who he had often seen roaming around his house. Raut suspected that Bhagat was stalking his wife.

After learning that Bhagat was Adhav’s friend, he called him to his house and questioned him. But, when Adhav denied having any knowledge of Bhagat’s intentions, he was assaulted by Raut and his friends. Later, they took him to Colaba market, stripped him to his innerwear and paraded him.

Adhav finally lodged an FIR with Colaba police against the accused on Friday. In his statement, he mentioned, “I was brought out of the house and forced to walk around in Colabawadi. They also filmed me and threatened that if I told anyone, I would face dire consequences.”

Apart from Raut, the other eight accused have been identified as Satyawan Tandel (33), Robert Fernandes (31), Hemant Dhanu (30), Tejas Raut (23), Bharat Raut (26), Moreshwar Waydande (29), Narendra Chaugule (31) and Vikas Raut (32).

All nine were booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal code and arrested on August 6.

The police are yet to recover the video that was recorded by the accused.
