Kalyan man kills self over WhatsApp abuse, clicks selfie with wife before jumping in front of train
A 25-year-old, fed up of the abuse he was receiving on WhatsApp, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train between Khadavli and Vasind railway stations on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Minutes before he took the drastic step, the victim, Vishal Khade, clicked a selfie with his wife Vaishnavi on the railway tracks and sent it to friends and relatives via WhatsApp. The incident took place on December 22.
Khade, a resident of Tempe Pada near Kalyan, had planned to commit suicide with his wife but at the last moment pushed her away from the tracks before killing himself.
The couple have a six-month-old daughter and they lived with Khade’s brother Vaibhav and his father Ramesh.
“He also recorded a voice message and sent to his relatives and friends. In the recording, he said that he was frustrated following abusive WhatsApp messages which he was receiving from a person,” the Government Railway Police (GRP) said.
Following the incident, the Kalyan GRP lodged an accidental death report. The family, however, has accused the police of not taking the circumstances into account while registering the case.
They have also demanded action against Sachin Vekhande and Arun Satvi, the two men who were allegedly harassing Khade on WhatsApp.
Police are currently investigating the case and trying to ascertain if the harassment at the hands of the two men forced Khade to take the extreme step.
