Massive fire engulfs Hotel Samraj at Chakala in Andheri
A massive fire engulfed Hotel Samraj in Chakala area of Andheri late Friday night.
The incident took place around 11 pm at Hotel Samraj, located at Chakala Road, Parshiwada, Chakala in Andheri East. The fire department was alerted about the blaze at 11:12 pm.
The fire officials reached the spot around 11:29 pm, following which they escalated the call to a Level III fire.
At least eight fire engines and five water tankers are currently on spot trying to douse the fire.
According to preliminary information, the blaze originated in one of the rooms on the third floor and quickly spread to the subsequent floors of the seven storey building.
The fire department has rescued 40 people from the premises so far. However, some are feared trapped inside. No casualties have been reported till now.
Apart from the rooms, the hotel also houses a restaurant called ‘Just Kerela’. The patrons were also vacated immediately after the staff was alerted.
The cause of fire is not known. Further details are awaited.
