Police solve 2-wheeler robbery case in 24 hours with the help of silent mobile
A mobile phone on silent mode helped cops track a stolen two-wheeler within a span of 24 hours.
On Friday morning, Yogesh Kanjar, owner of an automobile service center, noticed his Honda Activa missing from his usual parking spot. The Poisar resident searched the nearby area initially, but after failing to locate his bike, he decided to file a complaint with Kandivali police station.
While registering the FIR, Kanjar informed the cops that his cell phone was also kept under the Activa’s seat. When the cops asked him to call the number, the phone rang but it did not alert the culprit since it was still on silent mode.
The call allowed officials to trace the phone’s location using mobile tower data. The mobile, along with the Activa, was finally traced to Chinchoti, Vasai and cops were able to apprehend the accused, Suresh Devendran.
Devendran later confessed that he had got drunk on Thursday night and stolen the bike. He even admitted to knowing Kanjar since both resided in the same locality in Poisar.
Devendran has been booked under Section 379 (theft) of the IPC and remanded to judicial custody.
