Powai-businessman assaults neighbour’s maid, arrested
Mumbai Police on Sunday arrested a 32-year-old businessman from Powai for physically assaulting a woman who worked as domestic help in his building.
The incident took place on March 18 and was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the residential building.
In the footage, the man, identified as Valentino Bakshi, can be seen approaching the woman near the elevator and subsequently pushing her to the ground. The woman worked for one of Bakshi’s neighbours.
While the 48-year-old victim, whose head had hit the wall during the fall, tries to check her head for bleeding, Bakshi kicks her. The building’s security guard witnesses the entire episode, but opts to reprimand the maid instead of helping her.
Following the incident, the woman called her daughter for help, who took her to the police station and filed a complaint.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that Bakshi wanted her to work at his flat. However, she refused the offer and informed the guard and another maid about it, which reportedly angered the businessman.
Based on her complaint, an FIR under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 504 (Intentional insult) of the IPC was registered against Bakshi.
He was arrested on Sunday morning and later produced in Bandra court, which sent him to judicial custody.
Bakshi reportedly told cops that the woman had approached him to purchase an old TV from him earlier. While conversing, her spit kept flying in his face, which prompted him to push her slightly.
He claimed that he did not intend for her to fall down and even apologised for the same later.
