Rooftop commuter electrocuted near GTB station, Harbour line comes to a standstill
On Monday evening, the Harbour line came to a standstill after a commuter got electrocuted near GTB station.
The incident occurred around 6:45 pm, when a railway commuter got electrocuted after coming in contact with the overhead wire between GTB and Chunabhatti stations. The CST-Vashi train came to a standstill near GTB station.
As of 7:30 pm, all Vashi and Panvel-bound trains are running late by 45 minutes. Hundreds of commuters were also seen getting down at Sewri and Wadala stations in a bid to take a different route.
CR authorities have taken a power block for removing the electrocuted rooftop traveller. Meanwhile, the Trans-Harbour and Central lines are unaffected and operating normally.
Earlier in the day, a signal failure at Vidyavihar station had caused the Central line trains to get delayed by 25 minutes during peak hours.
Further details regarding the injured commuter’s condition is awaited. No official announcement has been made by Central railway as of 7:30 pm.
Update (8 pm): Public announcement about overhead overhead wire failure made around 7:50 pm. Service resumed around 7:55 pm. The deceased commuter’s body has been taken down. Identification still pending.
Update (August 9, 10 am): The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Badru Yadav. He was a resident of Sion Koliwada.
