Malad police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old for harassing a female cop by sending her lewd messages, obscene pictures and calling at odd hours.

According to reports, the harassment began in October 2015, when the female constable received a WhatsApp message from an unknown person asking her about her well being. Since the display picture was that of a woman, the constable believed it was one of her acquaintances and replied. The person kept sending her ‘normal’ messages till November.

On December 6, however, the constable received an obscene message from the number. When she asked how the person got her number, there was no reply. A few days later, she received multiple obscene messages from the same number and the sender started talking to her in a sexually explicit language. The cop ignored the messages and blocked the number.

A few days later, a man claiming to be from the armed forces started calling her during odd hours. The constable blocked the number this time as well.

After a few months of peace, the constable got another message from an unknown number of August 27. Although the person claimed to be a woman, the constable tread on the side of caution and ignored the message. After getting no response, the sender once again started sending her obscene messages and pictures.

Having had enough, the constable approached Malad police and filed a complaint against the culprit. The investigation led police to Santacruz, from where they nabbed the accused – Shamsul Khan. He has been booked under the relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act.

Police are now trying to ascertain if Khan has any grudge against the constable or just one of the many victims. His phones have been confiscated and Khan has been remanded to police custody till September 2.
