Sion police arrest 26-year-old watchman for molesting 6 school students
Sion police have arrested a 26-year-old watchman for entering a civic school and allegedly molesting at least half a dozen school girls.
The accused, identified as Dharmendra Rao, had entered the Sion civic school’s premises under the pretext of collecting his leaving certificate on July 27. Once inside, he hid behind a staircase and molested at least six girls who were passing by. The girls were Std VI and VII students.
After one of the girls informed a school faculty, the staff raised an alarm and started looking for the accused. After a few minutes of search, Rao was found in the school’s washroom.
The school authorities immediately informed Sion police, who arrived on the spot and took the accused into custody.
A school teacher filed the first information report against Rao at Sion police station. However, when the girls were called to record their statements, only two of the six girls turned up and gave their statements. Rao was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal code and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
While Roa denied the allegations initially, the police continued to question him until he confessed to committing the crime. The accused is married and a resident of Antop Hill. His wife has not been in town since over a month.
Meanwhile, Sion police are trying to get the other students to record their statements and the school authorities are trying to figure out if the accused was indeed a an ex-student.
