TMC employee injured after slab of concrete of his ‘TMC approved’ building falls on him
A 52-year-old Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) employee was severely injured after a slab of concrete from his home’s roof fell on him.
According to a Times of India report, the incident happened late Saturday night when the victim, V Remjhe, was having dinner with his family at his residence at Palibai Niwas chawl in Kalwa, Thane.
The slab fell directly on Remjhe’s back, injuring his spine. Following which, the Public Works Department employee was rushed to the hospital. According to preliminary investigation, it seems that the leakage in the building may have caused the plaster to loosen and give way.
Surprisingly, Remjhe’s building wasn’t in the list of 90 buildings that were deemed ‘unsafe’ for occupancy by civic officials. The remaining residents of the building have also been allowed to stay back after officials studied its structural stability.
But, the incident has definitely raised questions on the civic official’s certification of structures. Meanwhile, TMC has already began evacuating residents from buildings classified as extremely dilapidated.
