Trailer accident on Ghodbunder Road brings traffic to a standstill during peak hours
An early morning accident involving a trailer brought traffic to a standstill on Ghodbunder Road on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.
According to sources, a 40-feet container met with an accident near Fountain Hotel around 7 am on Thursday. Following the accident, traffic towards Borivali and Thane was severely affected. Further details regarding the cause of accident are awaited.
Motorists travelling via Ghodbunder Road during peak hours, from 8 am to 11 am, reported an average delay of around 1.5 hours. The traffic snarls continued beyond 11 am, but the circulation of information on WhatsApp groups and social media caused many to avoid the stretch and opt for alternate routes.
The stretch from Fountain Hotel to Vijay Garden on Ghodbunder Road witnessed an 10 km long bumper-to-bumper traffic around 10 am. The traffic towards Kashimira on Mira Road was also affected after private vehicles and trucks resorted to travelling via the wrong way.
As of 12:30 pm, the traffic has subsided a little. But the route is still riddled with traffic. In addition, two trucks have stopped near Bhayander bridge, affecting the flow of traffic towards Thane. Another has stopped a few km from Fountain towards Borivali.
Traffic police are yet to confirm if the trailer has been removed from the spot.
On July 29, an accident between two trucks near Fountain Hotel had also resulted in a massive jam, causing motorists to get delayed by over two hours during morning peak hours.
