Now, it is your turn to say ‘no’ to errant auto-drivers who more often refuse to ply commuters for a short-distance ride, because now have the option of or hiring and driving their own auto-rickshaw.
Zoomcar, the self-drive car rental startup, has kicked off the service for autorikshaws too, the company announced today. The start-up already offers several cars for self-driving rentals.
Even those looking to take the auto-rickshaw for a joy-ride can avail of the service. The Zoomcar auto-rickshaw rental service has been launched on a trial basis only.
While the pilot run with limited inventory across 6 cities, is still in process, Delhi was the first city to get the service. The company, however, hasn’t revealed the other five cities that will get the auto-rickshaw rental service.
As per the conditions, customers will be allowed to drive the auto only for 30 minutes for one booking. Although the website and app currently allows the customers to book for a minimum of 4 hours, the price (Rs 10/hr) has been adjusted to account for it. Customers will need to pay only Rs 40 for a 30 minute drive.
Zoomcar currently serves seven cities — Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Chandigarh.
However, the auto-rickshaw booking option hasn’t been made available on the website yet.
The customers will have to undergo a 10-minute guidance session with the fleet executive before driving the auto. After the session, the customer will be able to drive for 20 minutes, accompanied by two professionals.
To ensure safety during the pilot run, customers will only be allowed to drive within a one-kilometre radius of the pick-up site. Also there is a refundable security deposit of Rs 5,000 for every booking.Back to latest news
