Over 30 dead after bus carrying university staff falls in gorge near Poladpur, Raigad
At least 30 people died in a bus accident near Ambenali Ghat along the Mahabaleshwar-Poladpur stretch of the Mumbai-Goa highway on Saturday morning.
The bus was carrying 34 staff members of Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Agriculture University (Dapoli), who were going for a picnic to Mahabaleshwar when the accident took place.
According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the bus following which it fell off the road and into a deep gorge roughly 15 kms away from Poladpur in Raigad district.
33 people reportedly died in the mishap and rescue operations, amid heavy rains, are currently underway.
“33 of 34 passengers in a bus killed after it fell into a gorge near Poladpur in Raigad district todaym” District Collector Vijay Suryawanshi was quoted as saying.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Pune have been rushed to the accident spot for rescue operations.
