Actress Nargis Fakhri duped of Rs 6 lakh by ‘credit card’ fraudster
Actress Nargis Fakhri has reportedly been conned out of Rs 6 lakh by an unidentified miscreant, who made fraudulent transactions on her credit card in the United States.
After learning about the transactions, Fakhri, who is an US citizen, immediately alerted her bank and got her card blocked. She later filed a complaint with Mumbai police on Monday evening.
The accused reportedly made the transactions during early Monday morning (Sunday evening in US). It is suspected that the miscreant copied Nargis’ card information and cloned her card. In all, 14 transactions totalling $9000 were made.
While an official with Juhu police said that the cloned card was used to withdraw money, the actress maintains that it was used against shopping related transactions.
The actress was in Mumbai while her card was being used and was alerted about the transactions after she received SMS alerts from the bank. The card issuing bank, Kotak Mahindra, however refused to share additional details citing client confidentiality.
A police officer assigned to the case told TOI, “We are going to get details from Kotak Mahindra bank regarding the fraudulent transactions. A probe is also under way to check why the bank did not realise and stop the transactions when they went on for four hours.”
Fakhri recently returned to India after a three month break and is currently busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Banjo’, which also stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role.
