Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 mints Rs 50 crore on opening weekend
Superstar Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 2’ has earned Rs 50.46 crore in its opening weekend, according to the film’s producers.
The film, which is a sequel to the National Award winning courtroom drama ‘Jolly LLB’, released this past Friday. While the 2013 film starred Arshad Warsi in the lead role, Akshay Kumar plays the protagonist in the sequel.
According to producers, Fox Star Studios, the total weekend collection stands at Rs 50.46 crore. The 2013 film, in comparison, had earned Rs 32 crore during its opening weekend.
“It is humbling to see audiences shower so much love on our film. The movie is riding on fantastic word of mouth and we expect a huge week one on the cards,” Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios said in a statement.
According to the makers, the film has already created many records in its first weekend – becoming the all time biggest February opening weekend in Bollywood and the highest non-holiday opening weekend film of Akshay Kumar.
“The film is growing day by day. Its lifetime collection should touch approximately over Rs 150 crore,” Akshay Rathi, exhibitor, told PTI.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted the day-wise split. “#JollyLLB2 has a TERRIFIC Sun. Goes from strength to strength. Fri 13.20 cr, Sat 17.31 cr, Sun 19.95 cr. Total: ₹ 50.46 cr. India biz (sic)”
The film has also become Akshay’s top opening weekend earners after Singh Is Bling (54.44 crore), Housefull 3 (Rs 53.31 crore) and Brothers (Rs 52.08 crore).
Jolly LLB 2 also stars Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor in pivotal roles.
