Infamous for his Twitter controversies, veteran Bollywood singer Abhijeet has landed in legal trouble for hurling abuses at a female journalist on the micro-blogging platform.

The singer had recently commented on the murder case of a Chennai techie, wherein a 24-year-old Infosys employee was hacked to death at a busy railway station in Chennai. Abhijeet had suggested that since the attacker was a Muslim youth, the murder was a case of ‘love jihad’.

After a female journalist, Swati Chaturvedi, informed the singer that the murderer was a man called Ramkumar and pointed out that the singer must be arrested for stoking communal hatred, he lashed out at the journalist and hurled abuses at her.

He sent her a number of tweets filled with ‘obscenities and profanities’ that were later deleted.

While talking about the tweets Chaturvedi told PTI, “(He has been) calling me all sorts of loaded, sexually nasty terms. It all started because he has been tweeting this information in the Chennai case. And I called that out and said that such things can start off riots.”

She later contacted Mumbai Police via twitter, who were quick to respond to the journalist.

The journalist, who is based out of Delhi, lodged a complaint against the singer at Delhi’s Vasant Vihar police station accusing him of abusing her. She later reached out to Mumbai Cyber Cell who assured her of taking strong action against Abhijeet.

The singer labeled the journalist’s complaint as a mere publicity stunt and responded by tweeting, “She is lucky she is a woman. Or I would have found out her address”.
