Man poses as Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor, asks models to send bold images
On Monday, Chandigarh police arrested a man for allegedly posing as an actor cum casting director and blackmailing models under the guise of providing them role in Bollywood films.
The accused, identified as Harpreet Bawa, would introduce himself as actor and director Darshan Aulakh to aspiring models. Aulakh owns a production house, Darshan Aulakh Productions, in Chandigarh and provides filmmakers with shooting facilities in North India.
Aulakh has also worked in famous Bollywood movies like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Singh Is King’, ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, ‘Highway’ and ‘Phantom’. Bawa was able to convince people easily as his face resembled Aulakh’s.
Under the guise of offering movie roles, Bawa would ask the models to send them bold pictures. After acquiring their pictures, he would extract money by blackmailing them. Bawa has reportedly cheated several models and minted lakhs by means of blackmailing.
When Aulakh was contacted by one of the victims, he realised that someone was misusing his and his production house’s name to cheat people.
According to Aulakh, he never has never claimed to offer movie roles to models.
The imposter, a resident of Barnala district of Punjab, was arrested by the Chandigarh police after a complaint was filed against him by an aspiring model. The complainant also submitted screenshots of her WhatsApp conversation with Bawa wherein he is asking the model to send her nude and semi-nude pictures.
Chandigarh police has booked Bawa under sections 66C, 66D of IT Act and 354D, 384 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
