Mumbai airport on high-alert after guard finds note warning of ISIS attack
Officials stepped up security arrangements at Mumbai airport on Wednesday after a note warning of an ISIS attack in Mumbai on Republic Day or ‘anytime’ was found in its cargo facility.
The note was discovered by a private security guard around 5 pm yesterday in one of the toilets of the sprawling ACC building, located around 3.5 km away from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Sahar Road.
The note read – “attack the cargo on 26.01.18 or anytime – ISIS”.
As a precautionary measure, the Central Industrial Security Force, Mumbai police and bomb squads got into action and started evacuating the entire cargo section, and launched a search.
It was also decided that people will now be allowed inside only after a thorough screening.
Though the threat note has been received two months in advance, the airport security agencies did not take any chances and anti-sabotage checks were being conducted in the cargo area.
However, CISF sources later said that the note might have been a hoax.
Meanwhile, security agencies and other teams are still on high alert to prevent any incident.
