Video: TC saves passenger at Kalyan station
An on-duty ticket checker saved the life of a young man who fell at the edge of the platform after boarding an express train at Kalyan station last week. The act was caught on a CCTV camera installed nearby.
The incident took place last Saturday around 9:30 am at Kalyan station’s platform number 4.
TC Shashikant Chavan, after performing his duties, alighted the Pushpak Express when it halted at the platform. The train was en route Lucknow from Mumbai.
While the official was waiting with a colleague, a passenger who was hanging on the footboard of the departing express train fell on the platform. The passenger, identified as Sandeep Sonkar, had fallen perilously close to the gap between the train and platform.
As soon as Chavan saw him falling, he rushed to Sonkar’s aid and pulled him away from the train. In no time, other passengers and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials also came to help.
The passenger did not sustain any major injury and was saved in the nick of time thanks to Chavan’s prompt action.
The Kansai-resident was lauded and felicitated for his brave act by Kansai Foundation of Ambernath. The event was attended by local councilor Aparna Kunal Bhoir and Shekhar Thakre among others.
Chavan has been employed with Central Railway for 26 years and is the main ticket examiner at Ambernath.
Dinkar Pingale of Kalyan Police station told Lokmat that there was no record of the incident since it did not result in any casualties.
In a similar incident, an RPF constable saved the life of a seven-year-old boy who had fallen in the gap between the platform and the track at Mumbai’s Naigaon railway station earlier this month.
