Fire breaks out at bag and leather shop outside Crawford Market, Fort
A fire broke out at a bag and leather shop outside the busy Crawford Market area in South Mumbai on Thursday afternoon. It was the second fire related mishap reported in the city today.
Details about the fire:
Location: According to preliminary information, the fire broke out at ‘United Leather Works’ (Shop 555) located outside Crawford Market at Lokmanya Tilak Marg, Dhobi Talao near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) area in Fort. The shop deals in a variety of bags and imported luggage.
Time: The mishap took place around noon today and the fire department was alerted immediately after.
Severity: Fire officials reached the spot with two fire tenders to control the blaze. Traffic police are also on the spot to control the traffic situation.
Cause of fire: The fire is suspected to have caused due to a short circuit, although a final confirmation from the fire department is awaited.
Casualties & damage: No casualties were reported in the incident. A major portion of the shop, however, has been gutted.
Current status: Fire fighting was underway as of 1 pm and traffic police was trying to control the large crowd that has gathered outside the spot. Further details are awaited.

The Crawford Market blaze was the second fire related incident in the city today afternoon.
Earlier in the day, another blaze had broke out at a godown at Wajid Ali Compound in Saki Naka. Ten fire tenders were rushed to control the blaze, which was still raging as of posting this report.
In another similar incident on Monday, a blaze gutted Ambience Lights & Sounds showroom at Andheri’s Laxmi Industrial Estate.
