Over 900 graduates, 250 post graduates apply for the post of ‘hamaal’ in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has received 2,424 applications for the five posts of ‘porters’ (hamaal), the exam for which is likely to be held in August.
According to a report in DNA, among the 2,424 applicants, 984 are graduates, 605 have completed their HSC, 282 have passed Class 10 and 177 are below SSC.
The report quoted a top official from MPSC as saying, “The candidates who have applied for the porters post include 5 MPhil holder, 9 PG diploma holders, 109 diploma holders and 253 with PG degree.”
The MPSC had advertised about these posts in December 2015, wherein candidates between the age of 18-33 years were eligible to apply. In the written exam which will be held soon, the applicants will be tested for basic mathematics skills and linguistic ability.
Despite their educational qualification and background, the high number of applications can be attributed to the fact that many still believe a government job is still the best step towards a secured future.
