3 men book an Ola cab, steal it on the way to Kalyan
After booking a taxi via the aggregator’s app, a gang of three robbed an Ola cab driver of his car, mobile phone and cash by flashing a knife near Kalyan on Monday.
According to an official from Daighar police station, the trio had booked a cab via Ola’s mobile application from Koparkhairne. When the driver called to check their exact location, they told him that they were stationed near Koparkhairne railway station.
The accused had booked the cab from Koparkhairne to Kalyan.
After locating the passengers, the driver started driving towards Kalyan. But, when the cab reached near Mahape-Kalyan junction, one of the accused brandished a knife and asked the driver to get down from the cab. The trio then assaulted him, before robbing his personal belongings, mobile phone, cash and the car itself.
After leaving the driver, the trio immediately turned off the Global Positioning System (GPS) on the mobile phone, terminated the Ola app and switched off the mobile phone.
The driver, identified as Suryakant Khamkar, later approached Shil-Daighar police station and filed a complaint against the unidentified men. An FIR under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused.
Meanwhile, cops have sought details from Ola to track them down and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
