Railway Minister announces dates for free Wi-Fi at 15 Mumbai suburban stations

On Thursday, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced an update on the free Wi-Fi facility for Mumbai Suburban Railway stations.
Earlier in January, Mumbai Central became the first station in the country to get the free Wi-Fi service as a part of Railway’s goal of providing better services to commuters.
Following Mumbai Central, 9 other stations across the country, including Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Ernakulum Jn, Kacheguda, Pune, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada and Vishakhapatnam, availed of the facility in mid-April.
On Thursday morning, Prabhu announced an update on the 15 stations that are expected to receive the facility next. The stations include;
Central Line: Ghatkopar, Kurla, Vashi, Wadala Road, Dombivali, Badlapur and Mulund.
Western Line: Churchgate, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri, Virar and Borivali
Harbour Line: Belapur and Chembur.
As per the latest update, the implementation work on Kalyan, Dadar (Central and Western) and Bandra stations is complete, with a soft-launch scheduled for next week.
The work on other stations, like Kurla, Panvel, Thane, CST and Khar etc, is currently underway. The facility will be launched at the these stations on August 15.
Prabhu also announced that Railways was on track to meet its target of making the service available across 100 Indian railway station by end of 2016.
With the free Wi-Fi facility, commuters can use free internet service for an hour, after which they have an option of paying a nominal cost and continuing.

Railways and Google joined hands with RailTel to make high-speed internet freely accessible to the Indian rail commuters. RailTel is one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure providers in the country owning a Pan-India optic fiber network on exclusive Right of Way (ROW) along Railway track.
