Congress corporator booked for demanding extortion money from builder in Ulhasnagar
A Congress corporator, along with his aide, have been booked by Central Police for allegedly demanding extortion money from a local builder in Ulhasnagar.
According to the complaint filed by builder Dinesh Joimal, the Congress Corporator Godhumal Kishnani and his aide Bhoja Sharma demanded Rs 2.5 lakh in lieu of allowing him to carry out the repair work of his shop.
The complainant also accused the corporator of misusing his authority for commercial gains.
A portion of Joimal’s shop, located at Kalyan-Ambernath road, was recently demolished by the civic body to make way for the road widening project.
When he started repairing the damaged portion of the shop, Kishnani reportedly asked Joimal to pay the Rs 2.5 lakh extortion money if he wished to continue the work. The builder has alleged that despite being the corporator of the ward, he threatened to report his work to the Ulhasnagar Municipal corporation (UMC) if the amount was not paid.
Following the complaint, Central police in Ulhasnagar booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code and have launched an investigation in the matter.
Kishnani is yet to respond to the allegations levied by the builder.
