40% Indians believe we can win a medal in Cricket during Rio Olympics
According to the findings of a recent survey, 40 percent of Indians think India stands a chance of winning a gold medal in the upcoming Olympics in a sport that is not a part of the event.
The survey, conducted by Tata Salt, titled ‘Namak ke Waastey’ was taken in the form of an online poll in July. The survey received almost 1200 responses on social media platforms.
In the survey, respondents were quizzed on the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where India is sending its biggest ever contingent. The games are scheduled from August 5 to August 21.
Surprisingly, 40 percent Indians below the age of 30 said that India has a chance of winning a gold medal in Cricket in the upcoming Olympics, a sport that is not even contested in the Olympics.
40 percent of respondents also said that India’s boxers could bring home an Olympic medal, whereas only 14 percent believed that the country could win one in Shot Put. The higher ‘faith’ in boxing is likely due to the splendid performance of India’s boxers in the 2012 London Olympics.
Another surprising revelation from the survey was that 48 percent of respondents felt that India had organized the last Olympic games, possibly mistaking it with the Commonwealth Games organized in New Delhi in 2010.
Almost 70 percent of the respondents under 30 also said that they would prefer being an Olympian over being an actor or a businessman.
