Veteran actor Reema Lagoo passes away at 59
Veteran actor Reema Lagoo, known for her motherly roles in Hindi and Marathi cinema, passed away today morning around 3 am in Mumbai. She was 59.
The actress was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital after she complained of chest pain. She eventually died of cardiac arrest.
She is survived by daughter Mrunmayee, who is also an actress and a theatre director.
“She was complaining of chest pain so we took her to hospital around 1 am. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 am. She was perfectly fine and had no health issues…so it is really shocking for all us that she is no more with us,” Lagoo’s son-in-law Vinay Waikul told PTI.
The actress was born on February 3 in 1958 and appeared in a number of Marathi, Hindi films and television shows. She was born Gurinder Bhadbhade and took the name Reema Lagoo upon her marriage to Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo.
In a career spanning nearly four decades, Lagoo was known for her roles in movies like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,’ ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ and ‘Vaastav’ and TV shows like ‘Shrimaan Shrimati’ and ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ among others.
Having shared screen space with actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Anupam Kher, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, Laagoo has played a plethora of roles ranging from character roles to the actor’s mother.
She was last seen in the television show ‘Naamkaran’, in which she essayed the role of the antagonist Dayavanti Mehta.
Since the new of her demise became public, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar and many others have taken to social media to offer condolences.
The funeral will take place in Mumbai later today.
