Dalit protestors force owners to shut shops across Mumbai, disrupt traffic
Following the violent clash at Bhima-Koregaon in Pune yesterday, thousands of Dalit protestors took to Mumbai’s streets to protest against the attack on their community.
Specific Details:
* Protestors forced owners to shut shops in areas in and around Chembur, Ghatkopar, Worli, Mulund, and Thane.
* Raasta roko staged at Eastern Express Highway near Chembur, Govandi, Sion, and Panvel. Most roads, except Amar Mahal junction, cleared as of now.
* Rail roko staged near Mulund, Chembur, Bhandup, Vikhroli and Kurla stations. Most attempts were foiled in minutes and rail operations have returned to normalcy. Only harbour line services are running late by 10 minutes.
* Stone pelting reported at fine arts junction in Amar Mahal, Ghatkopar.
Following the protests, authorities have stepped up police presence in Sion, Mulund, Dadar, Chembur, Govandi, Bhandup, Powai, and Mankhurd areas.
