Video: BMC demolishes illegal structures, encroachments at Raghuvanshi Mills, Lower Parel

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on Friday demolished illegal structures and encroachments at Raghuvanshi Mills compound in Mumbai’s Lower Parel area.
Officials from the G-South ward reached Raghuvanshi Mills compound, located at Senapati Bapat Marg near Phoenix Mills Compound, with cranes early morning today and started by demolishing scores of illegal extensions in the premises.
The drive is underway as of publishing this report.
So far, officials have razed unauthorised structures, concrete encroachments, grass and metal facades and a chimney attached to the three-storey KSL House, which also houses Spacewood Modern Living.
The outer facade of all eateries, which are in the same line as Firki Veg Desi Kitchen, was also demolished. The compound houses a number of eateries and commercial outlets, primarily related to home furnishing.

This is the third major drive initiated at Raghuvanshi Mills since December last year and following the Kamala Mills blaze, in which 14 people were killed. The blaze at Kamala Mills broke out at an upscale pub that was in gross violation of civic rules.
Since then, the civic body has inspected restaurants from all corners of the city and taken action against more than thousand establishments that were found violating norms.
Civic chief Ajoy Mehta had also asked assistant municipal commissioners and deputy commissioners to form teams of zonal deputy commissioners and ward officers for inspecting establishments for violations and fire compliance in their respective jurisdictions.
Earlier this week, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) also razed over 200 illegal structures in Wagle Estate, Balkum, and Hardas Nagar that were obstructing the road widening project under the civic body’s proposed development plan.
