26-year-old arrested for molesting woman during Mumbai-Delhi IPL match at Wankhede stadium
A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians on Saturday evening.
According to officials, the accused, a member of the hospitality staff, initially approached the woman to sell water. However, even after she declined, he kept loitering around her seat and later misbehaved with her.
When the woman raised an alarm, he tried to flee the spot. The victim then approached the police personnel stationed in the stadium and gave them his description, which allowed them to track and subsequently arrest him.
“The victim complained that Gendraj Dadulal Satnami, who distributes water in the stadium, touched her inappropriately. Policemen at the stadium responded to her call of help and nabbed Satnami,” an official said.
Satnami was produced before the local court and remanded in police custody.
“An FIR has been registered and the accused has been arrested under section 354 (a) of the IPC for sexual harassment. He has been remanded in police custody for two days,” Manoj Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) was quoted saying.
