Mumbai gets free 24×7 bike ambulance service to tackle medical emergencies amid heavy traffic

In a bid to deal with medical emergencies amid heavy traffic, Mumbai-based Lodha Foundation has introduced a free 24×7 bike ambulance service, equipped with a first-aid kit and oxygen cylinder, in the city.

The charitable trust launched the free bike ambulance service on Sunday for swift movement through Mumbai’s traffic in case of an emergency.

The foundation backed by a local lawmaker has come up with the idea of a bike ambulance service, which will carry patients to hospitals free of cost in order to make them cover long distances in short period of time during the golden hour.

The service is unique in its approach as four-wheeler ambulances often get stuck in traffic.

Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a politician and founder of the charitable trust, said that the ambulance was capable of entering narrow lanes and it had all the facilities that a normal ambulance have including, medical kit, stretcher, and oxygen cylinder, along with the provision of a space for doctors to sit at the back.

Incidentally, this is not the first bike ambulance service launched in the city. Back in August 2017, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a bike ambulance service in the city and state to help citizens in case of medical emergencies.

To start off, ten motorbike ambulances equipped with all the necessary facilities required before hospitalization were introduced under the ‘Shiva Swasthya Seva’ program.

Meanwhile, accident victims in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chhattisgarh have already benefitted from such ambulances over the last few months.
