Employee held for robbing singer Mika Singh’s Oshiwara apartment
A team from Delhi Police nabbed Ankit Vasan, who allegedly committing theft at singer and music composer Mika Singh’s house in Mumbai’s Andheri on July 29.
Vasan (27), a Delhi native, had reportedly been working with Mika for over a decade. He would help the singer organise live shows and other projects, and was among the few who had access to his residence.
The robbery came to light on Monday, after Mika’s manager reported the theft of cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 3,25,000 from the singer’s residence at Enclave building in Oshiwara.
The manager informed Oshiwari police that the theft took place between 3 pm and 4 pm on Sunday and the prime suspect was Vasan, who was seen entering and leaving the premises around the same time.
The building’s CCTV footage corroborated the claim. Further, Vasan had been unreachable since Sunday evening despite repeated attempts.
Oshiwara police subsequently registered a case under section 381 (theft by clerk or servant) of the IPC.
Vasan was eventually traced to Delhi’s Vikaspuri after which local authorities sprung into action and placed him under arrest.
During interrogation, Vasan confessed that he had been working as an editor with Mika for 15 years and clandestinely stealing cash and valuables. He hid in Mumbai for two days after committing the theft and landed in Delhi on July 31.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar, Rs 50,000 cash, Rs 5 lakh deposited across three bank accounts, a hard disk containing music software and keys of the studio were recovered from the accused.
