Google Maps India declares JNU as anti-national
Search for ‘anti-national’ and ‘sedition’ on Google map, it will take you to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi.
In a bizarre development, search engine giant Google has landed in a boiling soup after its ‘Google map’ application has been showing the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) under the key word ‘anti-national’.
Several students and teachers from the varsity have expressed displeasure over this gaffe by Google Maps India and will be approaching the authorities to find out why this is happening.
JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar along with few other students had been accused of being ‘anti-national’. With the news flooding the internet around Kanhaiya Kumar case, keywords like JNU, anti-national and sedition have been associated to the university.
However this is not the first time Google maps have made such a blunder.
Last year in May, search for racist slur like “nigger house” showed White House in Washington DC as the result.
Later, Google had apologized saying some inappropriate results are surfacing in Google Maps that should not be and the team is working on to solve the issue.
