Railway Job Racket Busted: 3 held for promising TC jobs in lieu of 7 lakh
The Mumbai Crime Branch has busted a railway job racket and arrested three persons, including a woman, who promised people recruitment as ticket collector in the Indian Railways.
According to officials, the arrested persons as Rajeshkumar Tanti (28) of Bihar, Manishsingh Udaybhan Rai (39) from Uttar Pradesh and Seema Sunil Pawar (30) from suburban Andheri.
The accused duped several youths of Rs 7 lakh each by promising them jobs as ticket collectors.
“The accused used to pose as Chief Personnel Officer of the railways and would promise jobs as ticket collectors after taking Rs 7 lakh per person. Hundreds of job-seekers have been duped this way,” the official was quoted as saying.
“They were given appointment letters after medical tests. All these letters were fake. The gang even deputed select candidates at various railway stations, including Chhapra in Bihar’s Saran district,” he added.
When some candidates, including Navi Mumbai resident Tukaram Lande, got suspicious that they were not given posting for several months, one of them approached the Mumbai Crime Branch.
The police probe found that the racket was being run from Uttar Pradesh. A team raided a place in Varanasi after which Tanti and Rai were held.
During the raid, officials reportedly seized documents, including appointment letters, PAN and Aadhar cards, medical certificates, several mobile phones, debit cards, and cash.
The duo revealed the role of the woman, who was arrested on Thursday.
All three were booked for cheating, forgery, breach of trust, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and under relevant sections of the IT Act. They have been remanded in police custody till June 3.
