Duo arrested with 3 AK-47s, ammunition & drugs worth 13 crore
Palghar police arrested two persons and recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and drugs collectively worth around Rs 13 crore from their possession in Manor on Sunday.
The seized material includes three AK-47 assault rifles with magazines, four countrymade handguns, 63 rounds of live ammunition, 8.9 kilograms of ephedrine, 8.5 kg of Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), 500 grams of brown sugar and 3 kg of Morphine.
“Three AK-47s, 4 countryside pistols, 63 rounds, and narcotic substances have been recovered. The total value of the items is estimated to be around Rs 13 crore,” Gaurav Singh, SP Palghar said.
According to preliminary information, the Palghar Crime Branch received a tip-off that some unknown people were trying to supply banned weapons and drugs on September 29 to some areas.
Manor Police Station in-charge immediately informed higher officials about the incident, following which both Crime Branch and Manor Police Station teams jointly cordoned off the spot.
The officials laid a trap near Hindustan Dhaba at Mauje Chilhar junction in Manor and intercepted two men carrying large gunny sacks. Their search led to the recovery of the contraband.
The duo were subsequently booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
