Matunga Road to be city’s 1st railway station that will be powered by sun
Doing its bit to promote environmental sustainability, the Western Railway (WR) is all set to use solar power for the operations of Matunga Road railway station.
A proposal was sent to Asset Reconstruction Company in January for the provision of solar panelling through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
With 48 panels of 250 W each to be installed on the roof of the station, around 12 kW of energy will be produced per day, and the monthly usage of the station of 5,500 units is expected to be met by this installation.
The installation process is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of May this year.
With this, Matunga Road will become the first station in Mumbai region to derive power from the sun.
