220 illegal bore wells have been dug up in 24 wards of the city
The scarcity of water, especially in Mumbai is a pressing issue that the state of Maharashtra is currently trying to resolve. This deficiency has led to an emergence of about 220 illegal bore wells across 24 wards of the city.
Given bore wells more than 200 feet in depth cause a strain on the environment by depleting the water table, authorities had banned their construction last May. Hence, the digging work of these 220 wells was reportedly carried out on weekends in order to avoid civic bodies.
About 37 wells in Goregaon, 27 wells in Borivali and 20 wells in Andheri West been dug up in the period of 3 months since January 2016.
Only after several people made complaints that the civic bodies become aware of these illegal wells.
