Nana Patekar’s opinion on Pratyusha’s suicide is the most sensible one
Nana Patekar isn’t one to mince words. So when a news channel recently asked him about Pratyusha’s suicide, he was quick to share his honest opinion on the matter.
Over the last few weeks, the suicide of former Balika Vadhu actress Pratyusha Banerjee has been in constant limelight owing to the controversy surrounding the reason for committing suicide and her relation with beau Rahul Singh.
While most celebrities who were asked to comment on the subject choose to simply sympathize with the family, Patekar used the platform to spread awareness about another important issue.
Patekar said, “The girl (Pratyusha) dying was most unfortunate. But it is being highlighted day after day in the media. What about farmers who kill themselves? Are their lives not worth anything?”
After hearing from the likes of Rakhi Sawant and Dolly Bindra, who used their alleged friend’s suicide as a platform to gain cheap publicity, Pateker’s opinion on the subject really shows how the sensationalization of the matter is not just hurting Pratyusha’s family but also taking away limelight from the issue we should all be talking about.
In the past, Patekar has campaigned vigorously for farmer’s rights and is at the forefront of the movement to aid Maharashtra’s farmers. Apart from spreading awareness and donating money, Patekar’s NAAM foundation has also adopted several drought-stricken villages.
