Harbour line likely to get first 12-car service from April 21
What may come as a major relief to the thousands of commuters, the Central Railway (CR) is likely to introduce 12-coach trains on the Harbour line from April 21.
According to a leading daily, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu may be the one to flag off these trains tomorrow.
Prabhu will be in the city tomorrow to highlight trespassing control measures at Kanjurmarg in an on-going drive by the RPF and participate in an event to mark 100 years of the Matunga carshed.
The Harbour line is currently serviced by nine-coach trains that run a total of 590 services a day. Railways plans to replace these with 12-coach trains in the coming months.
The conversion will increase each train’s passenger carrying capacity by 33%.
