Kalyan boy who killed 22-year-old techie and then had sex with her body is just 15
The Thane Police that had approached the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to allow them try a minor – arrested for killing a 22-year-old engineer and an aspiring cop in Kalyan and having sex with her dead body, among many other heinous crimes – as an adult.
But their request received a major setback last week after the JJB ruled in favour of boy after his family produced proof to show his age as 15 years and 4 months.
Had the JJB ruled in favour of the police, it would have been country’s first such case.
Following the Nirbhaya gang-rape case , the Parliament had amended the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act to facilitate trial of minors aged 16 years and above as adults for heinous crimes.
Thane Police said the boy’s parents had told them that he was aged 16, which prompted the police to approach the JJB. However, now they will pursue bone ossification test to determine his exact age.
The Thane crime branch has nabbed the accused for killing a security guard in Shahad, attempting to kill two other guards earlier this month.
On April 14, he killed a woman engineer in Kalyan during a burglary attempt and allegedly sexually abused the body for 20 to 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, ashamed of his son’s deed, the boys’s father hanged himself on April 23.
