Video: Trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ out
The trailer of the highly anticipated Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer ‘Raees’ was released across digital platforms and select theaters on Wednesday afternoon.
Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of Raees Alam, a Gujarat-based bootlegger, in the film. The character is based on the life gangster Abdul Latif, who was wanted by the police for over 40 murder cases.
After getting arrested in Delhi in 1995, Latif was shot by Ahmedabad police when he was allegedly trying to escape.
SRK looks menacing as the titular character, which is miles apart from most of his recent roles in films like ‘Dear Zindagi’, ‘Fan’ among others.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui essays the role of an honest policeman who is helt bent on catching Raees. Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who is making her Bollywood debut, plays SRK’s wife. According to some reports, her role has been shortened in the film’s final edit.
Raees is helmed by National Award-winning filmmaker Rahul Dholakia. He had earlier directed the critically acclaimed Parzania, based on the 2002 Gujarat riots, for which he won the National Award for Direction.
Produced by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Raees’ will release in theatres next year on January 25.
The film’s release was shifted once to avoid clash with Salman’s Sultan.
Although the makers were successful in avoiding one clash, the film will end up competing with Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil, which is also scheduled to release on the same day.
The initials response to the trailer has been extremely positive.
