Cops arrest 6 members of gang that targeted people coming out of banks
The city police have arrested six people who allegedly targeted people coming out of banks and snatched their bags.
Identified as Abu Shaikh, Fahim Khan, Hasan Khan, Suleman Dayatar, Imran Fakir, and Nazir Khan, all the accused between the ages of 20 and 35 and have 5-10 cases registered against them at various police stations across the city.
Explaining the gang’s modus operandi, police said that the group would follow their victim on motorcycles, while avoiding CCTV camera installed outside banks and ATMs. While one of them would snatch the bag and flee from the spot, the others would distract the victim.
The police got a breakthrough on March 16 when Abu Shaikh was nabbed outside the diamond market in Malad while attempting to flee with a bag.
The cops then arrested his accomplices after data pulled off Shaikh’s phone revealed that he was in touch with numbers that were already on the police’s radar from past robbery cases.
