Drunk driver mows down 5 year old, granddad in Oshiwara; tries to flee

A drunk driver ran over a 5 year old and his grandfather while they were crossing a road in Anand Nagar, Oshiwara around 10 PM on Sunday.
5 year old Sarthak Kolekar, along with his grandfather Bhiku, mother Shilpa and grandmother Indu were returning from a relative’s birthday party when the incident happened. Indu was adjusting her sari, because of which she and Shilpa stayed back. However, Sarthak and Bhiku continued to cross the road when a speeding Volkswagen crashed into them.
The impact of the car threw Bhiku across the road while Sarthak was thrown up a few feet in the air. Sarthak was rushed to the nearby Ruby Hospital while Bhiku was rushed to Cooper Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Both were declared dead on arrival.
The driver, Indrajit Nattoji, tried to flee the scene immediately after the accident. However, locals chased him down on bikes and managed to catch hold of him.
After he was handed over to Oshiwara Police, they found liquor bottles from Indrajit’s car. They immediately conducted a medical test and found that he was driving under the influence. Further investigation revealed that Indrajit was a Yari Road, Andheri resident and owned a Production House.
Indrajit has been booked under Sections 304 A (Causing death by negligence), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering the life or personal safety of others) and 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the IPC.
