22 bikes, 2 four-wheelers gutted in fire at Vijay Nagar, Antop Hill
At least 22 motorcycles and two four-wheelers were gutted in a fire that broke out at Vijay Nagar in Mumbai’s Antop Hill area during the wee hours of Thursday.
According to sources, the incident took place around 3:30 am. While no one was injured, at least 22 motorcycles, a car and a tempo were gutted in the fire.
Fearing that the blaze could engulf the nearby building, locals tried to douse the flames before the fire brigade arrived.
“No one was injured in the fire. The residents initially tried to douse the fire until the fire tenders reached the spot. The fire tenders could get there on time because there are narrow streets in the area,” an official was quoted as saying.
Following the incident, Wadala Truck Terminal Police Station registered a case and launched a probe in the matter.
“We are investigating whether this was an accidental fire or a case of arson. We will check the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area,” police said.
