Four youths, all from the same family, were mowed down by a local train while crossing railway tracks between Borivali and Kandivali stations early morning on Monday.
According to a Western Railway spokesperson, the incident took place around 5.30 am when the victims were returning home from their native place in Kankavali, Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.
The suburban train had halted between Borivali-Kandivali stations at a signal, when the four persons decided to jump down, hoping to reach home quickly, a police official said.
As they hopped off and were crossing the railway line, they were knocked down and run over by another suburban train coming from the opposite direction.
They were discovered sometime later lying in a serious condition on the tracks and were rushed to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali. All four, however, were declared dead on admission and their bodies were later sent for autopsy.
The victims have been identified as Manoj Chavan (17), Saiprasad Chavan (17), Dattaprasad Chavan (20) and Sagar Chavan (23).
Borivali police has informed family members about their demise. Meanwhile, a case of accidental death has been registered.Back to latest news
