64-yr-old kills neighbour’s cat by throwing it off Thane highrise, arrested
A 64-year-old man from Thane was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing his neighbour’s cat by throwing it from the balcony of his 16th floor flat.
The accused, identified as Shivram Panchal, is a resident of Tetonia building, where he lives with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson.
According to sources, the Persian cat belonged to one of his neighbours. Panchal got irritated as the cat used to frequent his apartment.
Upon spotting the cat in his apartment on Saturday, a frustrated Panchal caught hold of the feline and started beating it with a stick. When his domestic help tried to intervene, he ignored her pleas and threw the cat from the balcony in a fit of rage.
After learning about the incident, the cat’s owner, Abdul Shaikh, filed a complaint with the Kasarvadavli police.
The eye-witness testimony of the domestic help and CCTV footage were adequate to nail Panchal, who was booked under section 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the IPC and under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
He was later released on bail.
