Ad hoarding collapses inside MSRTC bus stand in Thane
A hoarding installed inside the premises of the state transport bus stand in Thane fell on Thursday morning as strong winds continued to sweep the metropolitan.
The advertisement hoarding was installed inside the premises of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus stand, located in the vicinity of Thane railway station.
According to an eye-witness, the iron frame on which the hoarding was fastened to had become rusted. The frame, along with the banner, collapsed due to strong winds earlier today.
Fortunately, no one was standing or walking underneath the structure when it collapsed. A team from the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RMDC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation later reached the spot to survey the structure.
As of publishing this report, it is not known if MSRTC or a third-party was responsible for maintaining the structure.
The incident comes less than a day after two similar incidents were reported in Mumbai.
In the first one, aluminium cladding panels got uprooted due to gusty winds and crashed from the upper floors of the Churchgate station, resulting in the death of a senior citizen and leaving two injured.
In the second case, panels of an acrylic hoarding blew off the skywalk and crashed on three pedestrians in Bandra West. The panels fell on three women, who sustained minor injuries.
